Two dead in overturned taxi
WESTVILLE – Two people were killed and multiple people were injured after a taxi lost control and rolled numerous times on the M13 near Westwood Mall at 6 am this morning.
Most passengers were ejected from the vehicle and found lying on the busy freeway as Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene. One patient was entrapped in wreckage and Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise her in the vehicle as the Fire Department cut her free. Once freed the patient went into cardiac arrest and Advanced Life Support Paramedics attempted to resuscitate her however due to her injuries sustained she passed away on the scene. One other critical passenger was placed on a manual ventilator on scene, unfortunately a short while after arriving at hospital the patient also passed away. Approximately fifteen people had sustained various injuries and once all were stabilised on the scene they were transported to various Durban Hospitals for further care.
At this stage the exact cause of the collision is unknow however SAPS were on scene and will be investigating further.
