Brothel keepers and prostitutes appear in court
On Wednesday 4 May, five accused appeared in the Durban Magistrate Court, for charges of keeping a brothel, benefiting from the proceeds of crime, dealing with drugs and possession of drugs.
Four of five accused were charged with running a brothel in Durban North have been granted bail ranging from R10 000 to R20 000 .
It is alleged that the house in the upmarket Umhlanga area was rented out by its owner, a Durban business woman for about R30 000 a month to a couple , when neighbours noticed people constantly coming and going , they became suspicious and notified the SAPS, thereafter a sting operation was put in to place and police arrested a group of scantily clad young women, relaxing in the lounge of the house, among them were alleged prostitutes the alleged kingpin, an alleged pimp and an alleged drug dealer.
The suspects were aged between 24 and 64; the police team allegedly found them in possession of drugs, an unlicensed firearm and sex toys.
