Church on the Move to curb unemployment
MALVERN – In an initiative to curb unemployment and provide a platform for the community’s budding entrepreneurs, Church on the Move will host their third flea market on April, 29 from 9 am – 3 pm.
The market is open to anyone and everyone in Durban, but one stall has been set aside with a special intent. “Church on the Move will have one stall and all proceeds from their stall will be divided among the unemployed congregation members who assist with the stall,” said organizer Dietmar Müller. The church stall will sell pre-owned items collected by the congregation and shoppers will be given the opportunity to name their own price. Pre-owned item donations are welcome and organizers will even fetch them from anyone in the Malvern area said Müller.
As music makes the flea-market ambiance come to life, visitors can brave the dangerous animal display to see some impressive snakes and lizards or combat the weekend-what-to-do with a spirited game of paintball. And there’ll be time to snack on the home-made treats of those seasoned bakers that every market knows so well.
Over 30 jobs were created on the day at both previous markets. The church is also equipping their unemployed congregation members with art and craft skills so that they can sell their own wares independently at future markets. “We are doing our utmost best to create an entrepreneurial platform for our community members as well as our congregational members to earn an additional income,” said Müller.
Church on the Move is located at 242 Main Road, Malvern.
