Cop falls to his death from Blue Waters
“It was the most horrifying thing we’ve seen,” a North Beach resident told DurbanZone journalists, after a 48-year-old man jumped to his death from the Blue Waters Hotel on Snell Parade around 11am today.
The man (an African male) is believed to have been an off-duty police officer based in Pretoria, who had been visiting Durban. SAPS provincial spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that the man had fallen to the ground and was declared dead on the scene. Rescue Care’s Advance life support medic, Ceron Lennox, said that the man had fallen from the 10th floor of the building and had hit a bumper of a vehicle as he landed.
He was said to be unrecognisable and his age could not be determined straight away, as the body had been that badly damaged from the fall. The reason for his decision to end his life has not yet been revealed, but police confirmed that he had not been intoxicated and that no liquor was involved. An inquest has been opened by the Durban Central SAPS and police were investigating.
