Drugs worth R15 Million seized at Durban Harbour
KWAZULU-NATAL – A drug seizing operation conducted on Monday, 6 June,by Hawks,the South African Revenue Service Custom Investigation Unit, Durban Harbour ORS members and the K9 unit at a Durban Container Terminal led to members recovering approximately 60 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine which is known for its street name ‘tik’.
The drugs which were hidden in the cargo bags at the harbour were mixed with food boxes to camouflage them till distribution. The street value of the drugs seized were approximated to R15 million. The spokesperson from Hawks, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, “no arrests have been made at this stage and Hawks members are following positive leads in full force to decrease the availability of drugs in Durban.”
