Hitch hiker kills Eshowe school principal
ESHOWE – Police have managed to track down and arrest the man accused of killing a 44-year-old school principal in Eshowe who had offered him a lift last Monday.
The generous and unsuspecting principal, known as Busisiwe Nzuza, had been travelling along the roadway when she came across the 23-year-old hitch hiker and offered him the lift he sought. While on the road, however, closer to Nkwalini, the hitch hiker then allegedly pulled out a firearm and demaned the vehicle from the principal.
It is believed that she might have resisted and he then allegedly shot her in her head. The principal died immediately. The hitch hiker then set the vehicle alight and fled the scene on food. A case of murder and attempted hijacking was opened at Eshowe Police Station for further investigation.
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, commended the members for arresting the suspect. “I further warned the motorists not to offer a lift to any strangers or people who are hitch hiking along the roads. We have received a number of incidents where vehicle owners are being hijacked or robbed by the people who asked for lifts,” he said.
