Holidaymaker drowns at Umdloti beach
UMDLOTI – An elderly man drowned in the sea at the Umdloti main beach at 11 am this morning.
The man (70) was pulled from the water by lifeguards when he was spotted in visible distress in the water. The man went into cardiac arrest and CPR was performed in an effort to resuscitate him. Marshall Security and Netcare 911 paramedics responded to the scene. “The lifeguards saw the holiday maker struggling in the tidal pool,” said Chris Botha spokesperson for Netcare 911. Travelling from Gauteng to enjoy the seaside, the man was on holiday with his wife.
The exact cause of the drowning is unknown at this stage and SAPS will be investigating further.
