Man arrested for killing girlfriend and mother
KRANSKOP – Just a few weeks before Women’s month, Kranskop detectives made a breakthrough when they arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly murdering two women and for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect was arrested within 24 hours after he allegedly killed two women at Kranskop area. He has appeared in court and was remanded in custody. He will appear again on 27 July 2016 for a formal bail application.
On 7 July 2016, at about 10pm, two women were at their homestead in the Ekwazini area, Kranskop when they were approached by the suspect who came to see his girlfriend. It is alleged that the suspect shot and killed his girlfriend (25) and her mother (50) after an argument. The suspect fled the scene after the incident. Kranskop police attended the scene and two counts of murder was opened at Kranskop police station for further investigation. Kranskop detectives wasted no time in tracing the suspect and within 24 hours the suspect was arrested at KwaDukuza area on Friday morning. On further investigation, the members recovered a 9mm pistol at Inanda area suspected to be the same firearm used to kill women. It will be sent for ballistic for further investigation.
The KwaZulu Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Bhekinkosi Langa commended the members for their quick arrest of the suspect for committing such brutal murders. “This is strongly condemned and totally unacceptable in our society. These two defenceless women were shot and killed for no apparent reason. I appeal to the community to stand up and report criminals who are in possession of unlicensed firearms as they contribute in murders,” he said.
