Man killed in freak accident
PHOENIX- A Phoenix family have been left in shock after waking this morning to find a dead man hanging from their drive way gate.
Natalie Naidoo, of Helmcroft Unit 8, is still coming to terms with the shocking find of a family friend hanging dead from the spikes of the gate in their front yard. According to Naidoo, she woke up to open the gate to let her dogs out when she saw the man hanging upside down on the gate. “His right leg was hooked on the gate spike and his left hand was on the gate, it looked like he was backwards. I do not know how long he was like that and how he died”, said Naidoo.
It is alleged that the man identified only as Uncle Ravi, was around 50 years or so. He was a known maintenance worker in the area. It was also alleged that he was under the influence of alcohol from the night before.
Said said that Ravi probably tried to climb over the gate, to come into the yard to sleep, when he got caught on it.
Captain Louise Naidoo of the Phoenix SAPS said: “This was not a suicide attempt but rather a freak accident of a man that was under the influence of alcohol. The man tried to jump the gate when his pant hooked on the spike.”
While cause of death is yet to be established, it is alleged that due to the fact that he was under the influence when he fell over that the blood rushed to his head inevitably causing his death.
