Morningside man nabbed for leaking info from two-way radio
MORNINGSIDE- A 30-year -old man has being arrested in Morningside Durban on Wednesday, November 14, after being in possession of stolen emergency service two way radios equipment.
It is alleged that the man was monitoring actions and operations of the SAPS, EMRS and Metro conversations and in turn leaking this information to tow truckers in exchange for payment.
The joint operation by Provincial Organised Crime, National Intervention Unit, Metro Crime Prevention, EThekwini Outer North Crime Intelligence, made a break through when the suspect was caught right handed while he was busy monitoring these two way radios at an out-building in Morningside, Durban. The arrested suspect will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court tomorrow facing the charges in items of the telecommunications act, possession of property suspected to be stolen and defeating the ends of justice.
“The members swooped at an out building following information after police suspected that there might be someone who may be leaking information on Police operations to criminals”While inside the out building the suspect was found with different two way radios listening to activities by Metro police, SAPS and EMRS in their different channels. A total of 20 various two way radios were confiscated.
The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa congratulates the members involved in an operation. “This is a testimony that police deployments and multi-disciplinary operations in the province are reaping good results. Investigations will continue as to how the two-way radios landed at the suspect’s hands,” he said.
