Over 1 million South Africans united by prayer
BLOEMFONTEIN – Following Angus Buchan’s call to pray was a massive crowd of over 1 million people gathered at Wilde Als Farm on Saturday, April, 22 .
Staring with praise and worship music at 2pm, the nation wide event saw a mass of people gathered to pray for South Africa. “It has been confirmed by the disaster management services that there were over 1 million people at the event,” said Clive Tedder, co-ordinator of Shalom ministries. Responding to a video clip posted on social media, Angus Buchan called South Africans to come together and pray. “We are going to call upon the Lord to bring justice, peace and hope to our beloved South Africa,” said Buchan in a statement on his website. “It was more than successful, it was a historic moment,” said Tedder.
The meeting began with a five minute silence to allow those gathered to pray individually. Buchan then led the crowd in a prayer for the country. “It was awesome to see so many people humble themselves to pray,” said Pinetown dentist, Murentia Moffat who attended the meeting.
The national anthem was sung as the crowd shared in the unity of their country and the meeting wrapped up at around 4pm having seen over a million voices raised in prayer.
“It was the best thing I’ve ever been a part of,” said Byron Heathcote, a financial administrator from Durban.
