Pet parrot rescued from Pinetown house fire
PINETOWN – A residential home was ravaged by fire on Cheriton Road at approximately 2 pm today.
Thick black smoke bellowed form the blazing complex, alerting Rescue Care Paramedics and Breakdowns to the scene. Finding that the complex was alight, the fire department was called to assist. While no injuries were sustained, the home owner’s pet parrot was trapped inside the inferno. Rescue Care Paramedics and Breakdown operators delved into the blazing house to rescue the bird from the rear of the house. The fire department contained the fire rapidly.
“The fire was contained to the lounge and kitchen area and we managed to extinguish the flames within about 20 minutes,” said Acting division commander from the Pinetown Fire Station, Mervin Govender.
SAPS were on the scene investigating the cause of the fire. “A vehicle in the garage caught alight and the fire spread to the house,” said Colonel Thulani Zwane, provincial spokesperson of the SAPS.
