Protesters stone police officers
CATO MANOR – On Thursday evening protesters threw stones at police officers who were attempting to disperse the crowd who went as far as blocking the road between the Cato Manor and Glenmore area.
It was reported that when members of the SAPS tried to diffuse the situation where protesters were striking for the issue of no electricity in the area, the crowd began stoning the team, injuring officers on scene, one of which was Deputy Station Commander Col Mdlalose.
Cato Manor Communications officer CPT Sibiya said: “One suspect has being arrested and that the electricity issues in the area are due to illegal connections, that causes damage to the transformer, which in turn leads to black-outs and community members were striking for that reason.”
“Attacks against the police is unacceptable as we are there to help the community and keep them safe,” he added.
