School bus accident leaves 73 pupils injured
AMANZIMTOTI – A total of 73 pupils were injured when a school bus veered off the highway at approximately 10 am this morning.
The pupils, aged between eight and 12 years old were treated on the scene before being transported to hospital for the further care required. “All children have been removed from the scene and transported to various hospitals,” said Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for Rescue Care Paramedics. One pupil sustained moderate injuries while 72 pupils sustained minor injuries. The driver of the bus reportedly lost control of the vehicle while traveling along the R603 highway.
The exact cause of the accident is unknown at this stage, however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
