Six arrested in connection to Phoenix murder
PHOENIX – On Wednesday 22 November, six suspects were arrested for murder in Phoenix and Kwamashu .
The Ethekwini Cluster Task Team with the Phoenix SAPS were following up on the murder suspects who had shot and killed a 21-year-old male at a tavern in Whipclay place, Clayfield in Phoenix.
It is alleged that on 21 November at 10:00, a group of men pretended to be patrons at a local tavern in Clayfield , fatally shot at one of the employees. They all fled on foot and were all armed with firearms.
A case of murder was opened at Phoenix police station for investigation. Police arrested a suspect and the investigation led to the further arrest of five more suspects at a KwaMashu hostel. Police recovered two pistols and a revolver with their serial numbers filed off.
The suspects will be charged for murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and will appear at the Verulam Magistrates’ Court.
“The recovered firearms will be subjected for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the murder. The swift arrest of the suspects is commended. It shows that police are always alert and dedicated to prevent criminal activities and arrest the perpetrators,” said the Acting Provincial Commissioner in KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Bheki Langa.
