uMmhlanga’s new App
UMHLANGA – The village lifestyle has officially joined the age of high tech with a brand new ‘Umhlanga Rocks’ App that allows users to access information about all things uMhlanga.
Launched by the uMhlanga Rocks Place-Making Committee, the free APP is aimed at improving the Umhlanga Rocks experience by providing a central information hub for everything from beach umbrella hire to local gift shops and the best cocktail hot spots. “The APP is aimed at anyone from the Durban local looking for a wedding present, or a day visitor wanting to know about umbrella hire, to an uMhlanga Rocks employee on a lunch break or a tourist seeking evening entertainment, and as such we have grouped similar information together making it easier for people to access the exact information they need,” said Cara Reilly of the uMhlanga Rocks place-making management company, UrbanPLACES.
The A-Z business listing is just one feature of the App which includes an ‘Emergency,’ ‘News’ and ‘Report Fault’ buttons, while the ‘Line Up’ button links users to local events. Users can also check which beaches are dog friendly and send feedback about their experience of the App.
While the uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) was already present on social media, smartphone statistics were behind the App and developers plan to continue to improve its functionality. “From creating the structure of the APP, to loading relevant content, we have tried to be as comprehensive and inclusive as possible, but that is not to say that we haven’t missed anything or anyone, so please if you have a business or service located in uMhlanga Rocks that is not listed on the APP you must let us know,” said uMhlanga Rocks Place-Making Committee Chair, Shantelle Walters.
The app is available from iTunes and Google Play Store.
