Violent protest breaks out in Durban
SPRINGFIELD – A violent protest has broken out in the Springfield park area in Durban today,Monday 6 June.
Just before sunrise around about 4:15am, protesters have reportedly taken to public violence, by setting vehicles alight on the roads,it is also reported that vehicles are being stoned and shots have been fired in the Inanda area.
It is alleged that the protest began as the public’s way of airing their dissatisfaction due to the local election of candidate councillors, it seems the protesters are not too happy about the candidates elected.
This violence as led to several road closures including Inanda Road over the N2 bridge, Peter Road Sea cow lake, M25 from Parlock to Springfield and further closures , Police are presently monitoring the scene, although caution and alternative roads should be taken.
SAPS Spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane has confirmed the protest is rather violent, shots have been fired and 2 vehicles have reportedly being set alight , the SAPS are monitoring the situation.
” Protesters are hounding passerbys to join the protest but no assault chargers have been reported as yet, the public should take caution and avoid affected roads” added Zwane.
