Drummers challenged to a ‘Drum Off’
QUEENSBURGH – In an effort to raise funds to continue the thus far efficient running of their community activities, a prayer organisation in Queensburgh, known as Church on the Move, will be hosting a Flea Market that will take place on August 6, from 9am to 3pm.
Representative from the church, Dietmar Müller explained that one of the highlights of the event will be the ‘Drum Off’ competition that will see drummers in and around the community show off their skills in this first-of-its-kind competition. “There are two divisions: the Junior division that will see participants between the ages of 6 and 13, and the senior division that will see participant from the ages of 14 and up. The junior division’s Drum Off will start at 9am and the seniors’ will be at 1pm. We are still open for entries but there is a small fee attached to entering the competition, just to cover costs,” he said.
The competition will be judged by a special guest drummer whose name is yet to be revealed. One thing Müller could reveal though, was that this judge had over 30 years’ experience on stage as well off the stage and has taught many drummers to a professional standard in the music scene. “He will be hosting a free drum workshop on percussion and also answer Q&As from our young inspiring drummers. We have our major sponsor for the drum of competition which is Hunt Zone, Queensburgh. Hunt Zone Queensburgh, will provide the prizes for the winners of the drum off competition. Hunt Zone Queensburgh will also have a paintball stall, where anyone and everyone can come and improve their paintball skills,” Müller said.
Müller is also encouraging the community to book a stall at the Flea Market. “As a NPO, we are hosting this event in order to raise extra funds for our youth. We are also very much interested in our community and we have made the event available to all members of the public. There will be an exceptional variety of goods on sale on the day of the flea market and an awesome atmosphere with great entertainment. Food, accessories, books, fashion, entertainment, hobbies and outdoor equipment are just some of the stands that will be available at the flea market,” he said.
