Investigations for cause of DCC Fire continue
DURBAN CENTRAL – The cause behind The Durban Christian Centre Jesus Dome(DCC) fire is still under investigation. Rumours that the fire might have been caused by an electrical fault or was likely the result of a terrorist attacks has been deemed as nothing more than speculation.
On Tuesday evening around 6pm the DCC was engulfed in flames. Having burned for more than an hour, the Dome has been reduced to ruins with all that has left standing is the colossal aluminium cross among the rubble.
Mayville police have reported that a docket for arson has been opened in order to ascertain the cause of the fire as well as to eliminate any suspicion of foul play.
“The matter is still under investigation, due to the complexity of the fire and the value of the building. A document of arson has been filed by the state. SAPS members cannot speculate anything at the moment until details have been confirmed by the forensic team who are currently on site”, said Mayville SAPS spokesperson Warrant officer P Z Ngwane.
The Operations divisions’ commander Malvin Ramlall from the Durban Central Fire department confirmed that investigations are underway to determine cause of the fire, will take place today. It was reported that when the fire fighters arrived on scene, the attached building, the Dome, was totally engulfed and the team worked hard to stop the raging fire from spreading to the rest of the building.
“I would like to commend the fire team members for their bravery, they worked tirelessly to save the adjacent building and protect the fire from spreading, they suppressed a strong fire and managed to save sensitive office documents with no injuries from the team and public,” Ramlall added.
