Suspects arrested for unlicensed firearm
Three suspects aged between 24 and 26 are due to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court facing armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm charges. They are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 9 May 2016. The suspects were arrested by Durban K9 Unit at Otto Volek road, Pinetown.
On 5 May, during the day, the victim and her gardener were at their home when they noticed a Silver VW Polo parking at the gate. The gardener approached the suspects and asked what they were looking for and they pretended to be looking for someone living in the area. They drove away and few minute later the victim noticed the same vehicle approaching and she locked herself and her gardener upstairs. The suspect banged the dining room door and she pressed the panic button and the suspects fled the scene. The matter was reported to the police and Durban K9 members began searching for them and they spotted the same vehicle fitting the description at Otto Volek road, Pinetown. The three suspects were arrested and were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police on the swift reaction which led to the arrests. “We will continue to ensure that this province’s citizens are safe and protected against ruthless criminals,” she said.
