Verulam drug runner found with drugs worth 1-million rand

VERULAM – The KwaZulu Natal Police Department has confirmed that accused, Trevor Gopal aged 47, who was allegely found in possession of cocaine powder and drug paraphernalia to the street value of R1million this past Friday, appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court today, 13 March 2017 on charges of possession of drugs.

He was granted R40 000 bail and the case was postponed to 13 June 2017.

The Hawks and members from the Durban Organised Crime Unit on Friday, 10 March, swooped in on Gopal after members received information about the suspect who was in possession of drugs. A search warrant was obtained and members proceeded to the suspect’s house in the La Mercy area where a search was conducted.

Spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, said while searching the house, police made the discovery of approximately 2 kilograms of cocaine powder and drug paraphernalia with the street value of approximately R1 million were found. Gopal was subsequently arrested.
